Meaning of
WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH
DASWAND means "a tenth part" and refers to the act of donating 10% of one's earnings, both financial and in the form of time and service, towards charitable causes 'Vand Ke Chhakhna'.
GUPT means "anonymous" and describes one who wishes to remain incognito without recognition for performing any kind of selfless service. It promotes humility within one who offers an anonymous donation or contribution when helping others.
SEWA means "selfless service" ("Nehkaami") or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. It supports one's spiritual growth and contributes to the improvement of a community. It is the art of blessed action, of giving with no need to receive, where the act itself is a gift to everyone involved.
In Sikhism, SEWA and SIMRAN are the spiritual left and right hands of charity. Like the two wings of a bird who wishes to fly, you must use both in order to accomplish meaningful tasks. A person performing such charitable service is called a SEWADAR.
SIKHISM is founded on the principles of SARBAT DA BHALLA meaning "working towards the common good of all". A SIKH should lead a life according to these three ideals.
Three Principles The Sikhism
- NAAM JAPNA Reciting the Lord's name at all times
- KIRT KARNI Earning a livelihood through honest labour
- VAND KE CHHAKHNA Sharing your earnings with the needy "Thieves, dacoits, smugglers, pickpockets, cheats, also put in much labour but such earnings are impediments to righteous. Earnings acquired through hard work in which physical self is involved without harm to anyone or society.
